Beating Depression Is Possible If You Change Certain Habits

Beating depression is possible if you change certain habits

When it comes to the ever-increasing problem of depression, it is important that sufferers seek out therapists for help getting out of the hole. Why? Because you need more than just willpower and fucking embrace to beat depression, no matter what many people think – you need tools.

Therapists can play many roles here. First of all, they confirm whether someone is suffering from depression. Furthermore, they can recommend drugs, even if they can not prescribe them themselves. Drugs can play an incredibly important role, especially in the initial stages of treatment.

Furthermore, they can develop an action plan or treatment plan and help the patient to follow it while adjustments are made. They may even follow up after the depression has disappeared.

However, we all know that this condition is not directly a condition where you are proactive and excited about getting into new habits . It is also not always easy to hold on to them until they take effect. Willpower is therefore important, but also intelligence and having an action plan.

People with depression often feel tempted to adopt new habits that actually fuel the depression. One of these is to isolate oneself from others. We do not want to meet anyone and are sad all the time. The gym, the painting course, music… everything we used to like and were inspired by just makes us feel indifferent.

Maybe it’s good to have a break and some distance in some cases and for short periods; especially if the depression came as a result of a prolonged period of stress. But in the long run , it is vital to hijack these types of “melancholic” habits to beat depression.

Hitting depression is possible when we begin to do the opposite of what it urges us to do. Do not want to go out? Do something with your friends! Do you not want to train? Get up early, take your bag without thinking and go to the gym or out for a run in the fresh air.

When we take the first step, we will see that in retrospect it is not as difficult, and maybe even enjoyable. Maybe not at the same level as before, sure, but that just makes it even more worthwhile to do so.

The important thing is to get out of the circle that these habits have drawn us into. We have already seen that it is not logical to continue like this. We have seen that nothing changes, that everything remains the same if we continue in the same direction.

So one of the keys to beating depression is to start introducing different habits into our lives. We can even go back to the ones we once liked but ended up with.

For example, some of us used to play music, but stopped enjoying it. If you do not like it, you may not want to go back, but there are certainly other things we can continue to enjoy if we can just find energy.

Going to the gym and talking to strangers or acquaintances, going out with friends we always set up with, starting to eat healthier (exercising what is called conscious eating) and performing moderate exercise will be important steps in saying “goodbye” to depression.

Why? Because we will create moments where we feel better.

So we already know that depression can be counteracted if we return to or look for activities that make us feel good. But what can you do beyond that?

Earlier we said that one of the characteristics of depression is that it usually calls us to introspection. It tells us, “Listen, you’re in a crisis!” and puts us in a state where it seems easier to think.

We can use this to get to know ourselves better and put our emotions in order. Yes, our internal order does not work, so let’s analyze what it looks like and look for a new one.

From this point of view , a good way to ventilate emotionally and keep an eye on mood swings. In the same way, it allows us to look back at our words to see where we continue to fail, and become more aware of the situation we are in.

Many experts believe that writing is therapeutic, and with good reason. Sometimes we can or do not want to tell others what is happening to us, but we still need a way to express ourselves.

Keeping an emotional diary is very important, and not just when we are suffering from depression or other problems. Doing so as a way of life can be very healing.

To keep a diary

It is natural that it is difficult to look for pages where we have expressed all our pain. Over time, however, it can help you feel alive, revived and healed. Then comes a day when we can flip through the pages like someone reading a book. We will remember situations we have experienced that now belong to the past.

At this point, we already know that it is possible to beat depression if we change certain habits. But the road will be long and difficult. Often we will stop moving and even take steps back.

But if we try again and again, swim against the current and follow the advice of a therapist, the depression will disappear. Just like that. Depression dies when we cut off these fuel supplies.
